Dubois' Trainer Eyes Showdown with Wardley
Daniel Dubois' new trainer, Tony Sims, is aiming for a WBO heavyweight title fight with Fabio Wardley, following Dubois' second defeat by Oleksandr Usyk. Sims, who took over from Don Charles in August, has a history of success with heavyweights, having previously led Anthony Joshua to the IBF title.
The 28-year-old Dubois joins a select group of British heavyweights, including Johnny Fisher, who have been trained by Sims. The trainer believes Dubois is ready for a step up in competition, challenging the WBO champion Wardley.
Sims expressed his confidence in Dubois' progress, stating, 'I'd like the Wardley fight for him. He's past the comeback fight stage and is now operating at a higher level with Joshua and Usyk. I think it's a great fight for British fans and all fans, as both Dubois and Wardley are punchers.'
The trainer is currently preparing Dubois for a potential fight, focusing on technical aspects and waiting for a suitable date. Wardley, 30, secured his WBO championship in October with a career-best victory over Joseph Parker. Sims also mentioned the positive impact of having multiple heavyweights in the gym, including Wardley and Fisher, who recently won under Sims' guidance.
Additionally, Dubois has recruited Sam Jones as his advisor, and his sister, lightweight boxer Caroline Dubois, has signed a promotional agreement with MVP. Sims is set to lead Craig Richards in an all-British light-heavyweight contest against Dan Azeez on Saturday.
