In an exciting development for horror movie enthusiasts, Lionsgate has secured the global distribution rights to the highly anticipated psychological thriller, "A Head Full of Ghosts," just before the European Film Market kicks off. This gripping film features notable talents such as David Harbour, known for his role in "Stranger Things," Rebecca Hall from "The Beauty," and Esmé Creed-Miles of "The Sandman," all in the final stages of negotiations to join the cast.
Filming is set to commence in March, with production being handled by Team Downey, The Allegiance Theater, and Fifth Season. The storyline centers around the Barrett family, whose seemingly ordinary suburban life is shattered when their teenage daughter begins to spiral into madness, ultimately becoming the focal point of a reality television show. Fast forward fifteen years, and her sister Merry confronts the haunting legacy of their family's past alongside a journalist, revealing the true nature of the sinister forces that tore them apart.
This film is inspired by Paul Tremblay’s critically acclaimed 2015 novel and is being brought to life through the creative vision of Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. This talented duo previously directed the cult classic "Goodnight Mommy," which earned Austria's nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2014 Oscars. Their first venture into English-language cinema was with "The Lodge," featuring Riley Keough, released by Neon in 2020.
At the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin, Lionsgate will be actively seeking international buyers for the film while also managing its domestic distribution—an aspect that often adds appeal for overseas investors looking into pre-purchase opportunities.
The production team includes Daniel Dubiecki and Lara Alameddine from The Allegiance Theater, along with Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr. representing Team Downey, as well as David Gambino from Fifth Season. The deal was facilitated by Lauren Bixby on behalf of Lionsgate.
Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Team Downey, The Allegiance Theater, and David Gambino, praising their collective reputation for excellence and creativity. He highlighted the team's compelling artistic interpretation of this chilling narrative, stating that it is striking, unique, and genuinely unsettling. Fogelson noted that Stephen King himself has lauded the novel as his favorite of the past decade, mentioning it "scared the living hell" out of him, which speaks volumes about its impact.
Team Downey's representation comes through WME and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox, while Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala are also represented by WME and Black Bear.
