Imagine this: a royal mix-up that could have sparked an international incident!
During a recent rugby match, Princess Anne, in her role as patron of Scottish Rugby, found herself in a case of mistaken identity. While meeting the England team, she approached a player she believed to be Joe Marler, a retired rugby star and celebrity. Little did she know, it was actually Joe Heyes, another bearded English front-rower, who had the honor of being mistaken for the famous Marler.
Heyes, a 26-year-old Leicester tighthead, was understandably starstruck and didn't want to cause a stir. "She thought I was Joe Marler, which was quite upsetting," he shared. "She even said I was funny on TV!" Heyes, to his credit, handled the situation gracefully, not wanting to correct the princess and potentially cause a diplomatic crisis.
But here's where it gets controversial: should Heyes have spoken up? After all, it's not every day you're mistaken for a royal favorite! And this is the part most people miss: Heyes' diplomatic approach might have saved him from an awkward encounter, but it also meant he missed out on a unique opportunity to clarify the mix-up and perhaps even have a memorable conversation with the princess.
What do you think? Should Heyes have corrected Princess Anne, or was his decision to avoid conflict the right move? Let us know in the comments!
